"ONE SE8, a St. James Group site, is a large development immediately adjacent to Deptford Bridge DLR station and only 15 minutes away from the Canary Wharf business quarter.
The scheme has been designed to blur the line between public and private space. A central garden sitting around existing mature trees creates a dramatic line across the site. Across the development, priority is given to the pedestrian, with car parking consolidated in undercroft and basement beneath buildings and landscape podium structures. This maintains high quality amenity space on a high-density development.
Phase 4, comprising Blocks A &B, was recently completed. The two buildings have a variety of functions which make it a true mixed-use design. The blocks contain 150 residential units including studios, one and two bed apartments, and live-work units. The lower floors contain serviced "flexible" office space and a restaurant / café to add to the existing gymnasium and bar within the development, providing active frontages.
Blocks A & B were designed so that the landmark building is a significant visual event, using radical changes in colour, material, architectural style and form. The ambition for these building was to enhance the public realm, to make it more memorable and enjoyable.
RMA Architects urban design has achieved the creation of the new urban quarter that is contemporary, robust, imaginative, mix-use, lively and energetic. This development has been a catalyst for the regeneration of Deptford Bridge with further collaborations between RMA and St. James Group under construction on the adjacent site, Blackheath Road."
